Richmond

ART CENTER TO DISPLAY SUMMER EXHIBIT: The Richmond Art Center will
display an annual summer exhibit, "Elementary Art Around the Bay," Friday
through Aug. 4, in the center's Community Gallery.

The exhibit, organized by retired kindergarten teacher Linda Becker,
will feature works by 320 preschool through fifth-grade students in Dover,
Downer, Ellerhorst, King, Rodeo Hills and Valley View schools, in the John Swett
and West Contra Costa school districts.

There will be 565 art pieces such as masks, prints, drawings,
paintings, collages, sculptures and weaving. The works, incorporating such
materials as marbles, foil, coffee filters, beans and pasta,
fabrics and sponges, were created in 26 class projects. The projects include "A
Family is a Rainbow," "Animals of the World," "Mardi Gras Masks," "Faces From
Fifth Grade," "Kindergarten Critters," and "Peter Peter Penguins."

An opening reception will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The center, at 2540 Barrett Ave., is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday.

A common use for grounds is gardening. Not too sure what else to do with them other than art!
