Waiter, there's a Mariner in my coffee!

My art studio (No Such Animal Studios) is in downtown Seattle. It’s just one block north of Safeco Field and the Seahawks stadium is my backyard. This summer was brutal during the games as far as getting to the studio and bringing larger material to it. Parking in Seattle is a joke and parking during a Mariners game is a bigger joke. I did the best with the situation that I could. After all I did choose a space near Safeco Field.

To balance things out a bit I plan to do a painting in the Coffee Culture series using Safeco Field as a backdrop. After all, with the massive traffic congestion and having to juggle parking time or pay outrageous prices to park I figure the Mariners owe me a little. I won’t go into too much detail about it until it’s done but it will tie the American priorities together using the baseball field, a gas station that is no longer across the street from Safeco Field and Coffee.

This piece is in the concept stage and will be moving to sketches and studies in December. I plan to paint “The American Dream” in January and February 2006. I’ll post more about it as it gets closer to that date.

I usually don’t mention a painting before it’s well underway or complete but after the Seahawks game yesterday not allowing me to reach my studio with several large canvases my agitation has grown. The police made it all but impossible to reach my building because they were directing traffic to the highway on ramps. Going north on my section of 1st Avenue South was not an option. I tried earlier in the day to reach my studio and met the fanatics going to the game. I understood that I should have checked the schedule and just figured I’d come back several hours later and try then. The game should be over at that point. Nope. Game went into overtime. I arrived just as the game let out. Crap.

Now I have to develop a good concept for the Seahawks to be in a painting to help pay me back!

I have an idea for funding rapid transit . . .

One of the reasons . . .

One of the reasons I started this blog was to bring coffee art to light. I have been painting with coffee for over 4 years now and plan to continue with this medium. You can view my work at http://www.nosuchanimal.net

I’ll be posting new paintings, thoughts on coffee culture and ideas for techniques and the coffee medium.

There are several other artists out there painting with coffee you should take a look at the various styles, techniques and subject mattes. All very different. All very fun and beautiful. Enjoy!
